mohandasgandhi:

Hello, children. Guess what? Segregation still exists and this is the most segregated city in the United States.
I live in the dark red region and honestly, I wouldn’t want to live in any other section of the city because the best people live right where I do. Unfortunately, the non-blue regions are the only parts of the city that flood when it rains to the point where FEMA has to step in, have the worst transportation, some of the worst crime rates in the U.S., the worst poverty rates (the street next to mine has a 60% poverty rate and that’s “decent”), the worst unemployment rates (the Black community ranges between 30-50%), the worst potholes (I watched a car fall into a 20 foot sinkhole last summer), the worst schools, the worst healthcare, the worst everything.
Scott Walker reinforced these segregationist policies while he was County Executive and as governor. He even made Milwaukee its very own skid row. That’s why if you come to my neighborhood, you don’t dare pretend segregation is a thing of the past or even utter Scott Walker’s name because it’s brutally personal.
Segregation didn’t die with the 60s. It’s still very much alive. Now get that “segregation is dead” garbage off of my dashboard before I make you wear that on a sandwich board and walk the streets here.
